EXCITING NEWS!

Application Submission Deadline: 30 April 2024

100 Tonson Foundation aims to elevate the stature of Thai contemporary art further internationally, as well as to support the progress of the local art community. Beyond a physical exhibition space, we also bolster and nurture Thai art's deeper infrastructure by giving generous grants to artists, curators, writers, researchers, and art institutions to fulfill independent projects and exhibitions worldwide.

As part of the 100 Tonson Grant Program, Aey Phanachet, the founder, has supported several art acquisitions to include Thai contemporary art in important permanent art collections for major museums in North America. For example, the fund was established for Cantor Art Museum, Stanford University for acquisitions of contemporary Southeast Asian Art and was deployed for acquisitions of Nina Molloy and Jeab Prachakul’s paintings and video work by Apichatpong Weerasethikul, multiple sponsorship for art exhibitions include, Spirit House, curated by Aleesa Pitchaman Alexander, Ph.D. at Cantor Arts Center (September 2024 to January 2025) and SFMOMA’s Soft Power exhibition featuring a group of artists including Pratchaya Phintong in 2019.

This year, we plan to build upon our collaborative projects through funding and partnering with the Bangkok Art Biennale Foundation to showcase The Spirits of Maritime Crossing, curated by Apinan Poshyananda, Ph.D. This major project from Southeast Asia will be part of the 60th International Art Exhibition at Venice Biennale 2024.

The Open Call for Art Projects is also one of the foundation grant programs that serves our main mission of supporting Thai Contemporary Art and engaging with the local art community. The first Open Call for Art Projects in 2022 was a resounding success, and our team is so grateful for all submitted proposals. We are glad to have a chance to work with the selected artists, Savinee Buranasilapin and Tom Dannecker from thingsmatter, who created a remarkable site-specific architecture-based installation, FIELD COLLAPSE, together with six well-attended public programs.

We are pleased to announce the 2nd Open Call for Art Projects and would like to encourage you to submit your completed proposal with the most recent or newly developed project to us by April 30th, 2024. The selected project will be exhibited from November 2024 – May 2025 (a 6-month project) at Christian Liaigre-designed space of 100 Tonson Foundation in Bangkok and receive marketing and organizing support from the foundation’s team and receive an exhibition budget of THB 500,000 (approximately USD 15,000) *. This budget is made possible in part by the foundation’s alumni artists.
