----

'Photopsia' is a term, depicting a kind of condition when flashes of light are perceived without direct exposure to a light source. The term is employed as the title of our project to encapsulate the idea of visual phenomena emerging from the projection of light. The project reimagines the space within the gallery as a metaphor for photographic space where light phenomena take center stage, delineating a dialogue between what is seen and what remains unseen.

The exhibition consists of a site-specific installation and a video component. In the site-specific installation, the walls and floor of the gallery will be transformed into a seamless curved structure. Quartz fragments will be scattered across the floor, creating dynamic light reflections that shift their appearance according to the projected light and viewer positioning. In the library area, the window will be covered with a piece of black wood, blocking out light and creating a black mirror effect when viewed from the outside.

Footage of the view outside the window filmed during sunrise will be projected onto a wooden surface that conceals the real window behind it. In addition to the installation, the transformed gallery space will hold public programs every two months throughout the duration of the exhibition. The program will feature time-based arts including moving images, lighting performances, and plays curated from emerging artists. This happening event intervention is intended to underline the project's core message of using space to unveil the unseen, while also serving as an exploration of how the space interacts with various forms of light projection.

Press Release will be available in November 2024.
